Yoda Ears: Hers Stayed Small While She Grew
same angle, same light my log photo
Azmi's note My personal log from Meknes, not vet advice. Just what I did and saw tonight.

Her baby photos show normal lop ears. Then she grew and grew while the ears stayed short and wide. Result: permanent Yoda. Tiny helicopter ears on a full-size bunny. This is my growth study: monthly ear photos against body size, the month the lines diverged, and the helicopter era in full swing. Personal photo log, not breed or health advice, small size means vet-verified care in my house, and anything concerning goes straight to the vet. Growth diaries catch the funny details first photos miss. Yoda mode: permanent.

The divergence: months 2-4

Monthly photo, same angle, ears visible, the method borrowed from my nine-year comparison habit: same chair, same meter, same light. Month one: baby ears proportional, classic loppy fold. Month two: body up 30%, ears up 5%, first pencil note (ears paused?). Month three: weight climbing, ears holding at baby length but widening. Month four: verdict, she grew and grew while the ears stayed short and wide. Weight plus ear comment in the sheet each month: barely a kilo at weigh-in, all personality. She is small for her type, vet-aware, thriving, the size is hers, the monitoring is mine.

Helicopter era and comparison joy

Helicopter is the official verdict and tiny is the official size: barely two pounds of lop, ears out sideways like rotors when she’s excited. The spin move, full 360 ear rotation during binkies, earned the house’s best slow-motion video. Her baby photos show normal ears, so the pause happened as she grew; the comparison strip (month 1-2-3-4 side by side) is my favorite growth document after the mane grid. I love her more with every comparison photo, each month the ears stay and the body grows, and the ratio gets funnier. Friends’ verdicts: Yoda, helicopter, satellite dish (affectionate). Care note that matters: small rabbits chill faster, so her corner runs one blanket heavier in winter and vet checks note weight every visit. Growth diary complete to date; the ears, I suspect, are done. Yoda mode: permanent, beloved, monitored.

Measurement method and vet notes

Ear measuring, such as it is: soft ruler photographed beside (never on) the head, readings taken from photos later, month one 4 cm visible, month four 4.5 cm against a body doubled. The numbers matter less than the photos; the photos show the story the numbers only hint. Vet notes each visit: weight steady for her frame, body condition good, ears healthy and mobile (the helicopter spin verified in-clinic to general delight). My sheet carries a standing reminder: small frame, extra blanket, no drafts, winter protocol written before winter, the diary planning ahead for once. Comparison with the photo series habit keeps the method honest: same angles everywhere, dates in corners, no cherry-picking the funniest frame as data (funniest frame still gets printed, just not filed as data). Growth study status: body still gaining slowly, ears officially retired at their length. Permanent Yoda, permanently monitored, permanently adored.

Fan mail corner: Yoda comparisons arrive weekly (accepted with pride), helicopter videos requested monthly (shared sparingly, stardom managed carefully), satellite-dish jokes retired after overuse. Her response to fame: naps through all of it, ears wherever they land. The study’s closing line, written at month five: she stopped growing outward and started growing inward, calmer, funnier, more herself. Ears paused; personality didn’t. Permanent, tiny, tremendous.

Winter protocol for small frames

Small rabbits chill faster, the standing reminder that shapes her cold season. Protocol written: extra blanket in the corner from November (accepted immediately, burrowed nightly), draft check on all windows (one sealed with the foam strip after the December shiver log), weigh-ins weekly instead of monthly through winter (vet’s suggestion, followed). The helicopter ears double as thermometers in my notes: upright and mobile means comfortable; pressed flat plus loaf-tight means add warmth (observed twice, both fixed with blanket, both logged). Spring review: protocol worked, zero vet visits all winter, weight steady. The study’s practical half matters more than its comedy, tiny frame, warm corner, watched closely. Summer addendum: heat hits small bodies fast too, so tile access stays open and water gets the noon check. Year-round vigilance, seasonal direction. The ears report; I respond.

Month six outlook: body nearing full size, ears holding tiny, ratio at its funniest and probably final. The comparison strip gets its sixth frame next week; the vet gets the updated sheet at the autumn visit. Question I get asked: does she mind the attention to her ears? Answer from the log: she minds nothing except late dinner. The ears do their helicopter business regardless of audience. Study continues, comedy assured, care steady.

Ears forever tiny, heart forever huge.

She helicoptered across the rug tonight, tiny ears spinning while the camera missed the best frame again. I laughed so hard the tea nearly spilled, and the growth sheet gained another gloriously unscientific entry.
