Zoomies at Sunset: Movement Diary

Hi, I’m Azmi from Meknes! Sunset is zoomies time, and this post is my race log. The track: rug start line, tile straight, chair turn, rug home, about 9 meters a lap, cleared daily. Window 18:30 to 19:30. I log start time, laps counted roughly, binkies, and flop spot after. This is a movement diary, not exercise advice. I keep the loop clear and the mat flat so the run is safe; for limps, slips, or sudden stillness I would call a vet, not time laps. Photos are burst shots from the same chair.
The track and the rules of the race
Rug 2 by 3 meters start and home straight, cool tile 3-meter straight past the door, chair turn (wide, towel bumper on the leg since week one when a turn went tight and he clipped it, shook off, kept running, bumper same evening). Pre-race checklist at 18:25: toys off the rug, mat corners flat (curled corner caused one stumble-hop in February, now taped), water bowl pushed to the wall so the straight stays clean, phone burst mode ready on the chair arm. I sit in the chair, same seat, same height, and count laps on my fingers, roughly, never precisely. Roughly is honest: at full speed I lose count past six and write 6+.

Race log: two weeks of evenings
| Day | Start | Laps | Binkies | Flop after |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mon | 18:32 | 6+ | 2 | Tile 19:20 |
| Tue | 18:45 | 4 | 0 | Rug edge 20:05 |
| Wed | 18:28 | 8 | 3 | Tile 19:15, 38 min |
| Thu | – | 0 | 0 | Chair 19:45, quiet day |
| Fri | 18:35 | 5 | 1 | Tile 19:25 |
| Sat | 18:30 | 7 | 2 | Tile 19:10 |
| Sun | 18:40 | 3 | 1 | Rug edge, short evening |
Read the table like form: Wednesday 8 laps plus 3 binkies is peak, always a calm dusty-free day with afternoon play. Thursday zero is rest, not worry: quiet day, normal eating, flop under chair instead. My sheet pairs this with the flop diary: run then rest, almost daily, median gap 45 minutes from last lap to flop. Binkies cluster mid-run laps 3 to 5, never lap 1; first lap is always flat-out transit, joy starts once the track is confirmed clear. That detail took three weeks to see and it delights me every time: lap one checks, lap three celebrates.
Season notes and personal records
March window 18:30-19:30 holds; by June sunset shifts the window to 19:00-20:00 and starts scatter, my summer rows show 19:05, 19:20, even one 19:40 late show. Hot days cut laps: above 30 degrees averages 2 laps versus 6 on cool days, and flop moves straight to tile skipping the rug entirely. Records board inside my notebook cover: most laps 9 (March 19, calm, after tunnel play), most binkies 4 (April 2, new rug week), longest post-run flop 42 minutes (March 26). If you log movement, keep the space identical so days compare fairly, one moved chair ruins a week of lap counts, learned March 8th when I shifted the chair 40 cm and laps dropped to 2 (turn too tight) until I moved it back. Same track, same chair, same counter. Burst shots mine, all from the chair seat at trackside. Not vet advice.

Second fortnight, the wind rivalry
| Day | Start | Laps | Binkies | Flop after |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mon2 | 18:33 | 6 | 2 | Tile 19:18 |
| Tue2 | 18:50 | 2 | 0 | Chair, windy |
| Wed2 | 18:29 | 9 | 4 | Tile 19:12, record flop 42 min |
| Thu2 | – | 0 | 0 | Rest, normal eating |
| Fri2 | 18:36 | 5 | 1 | Rug edge 19:40 |
Commentary box: Tuesday’s 2-lap evening had a rattling balcony door all afternoon, wind is the great rival, holding the lap record down to 2 twice this month. Wednesday’s record 9 came the morning after I deep-cleaned the track (mat washed, tile mopped): clean track, fast bunny, four binkies with the last one nearly vertical. I now mop the straight on Wednesday mornings and take no credit for the pattern while enjoying it enormously. Month totals: 24 race evenings, 3 rest days, 131 laps, 41 binkies. The chair-turn towel earned its keep twice more, both caught on burst photo, both filed. Next season: summer window slides to 19:00 and I will be there with water bowl pre-shifted and expectations lowered, because the log says heat always wins and the real sport is showing up.
Track maintenance log, since the diary is only honest with it: mat corners re-taped twice, bumper towel washed monthly, tile straight mopped Wednesdays, chair never moved (tape outline on the floor now, after the March 8th incident). Burst-mode storage: roughly 40 frames per race evening, one keeper each, the keepers line my month folder like medals. Total time per evening under 10 minutes including checklist. The run-then-rest pairing held 21 of 24 race days; the three exceptions were all wind. Same track, same chair, same counter, and the counter’s fingers are getting faster.
Rival watch: wind 4, heat 3, guests 1, clean-track tailwinds 6. The scoreboard favors whoever shows up prepared, checklist done, bowl shifted, expectations honest. Lap one checks, lap three celebrates, tile flop closes. See you at 18:30, fryer of burst mode ready.
Season preview: autumn window holds at 18:30, winter will test floodlights, untested, unwritten, upcoming.
Final whistle: twenty-four races, one chair, zero moved furniture since March. The track endures.
Run then rest, almost daily, the pairing holds.
Logged, burst-shot, beloved.
