Lettuce Days Serve Photo Log

Azmi's note My personal log from Meknes, not vet advice. Just what I did and saw tonight.

Hi, I’m Azmi from Meknes! Eight lettuce days, one question each: hearts or outer leaves? I serve a small washed portion with hay on the side, before photo at 18:00, after photo at 20:00 sharp. Below are the eight days as scorecards, each with its own verdict, then the pattern underneath. This is my serve log, not feeding advice. One green per day so notes stay clear. For diet questions I ask a vet.

Day 1, outer leaves, crisp. Offered three outer leaves, washed, room temp. After: two half-eaten, one untouched edge. Verdict: nibbled, not loved. Day 2, hearts. Two pale heart leaves. After: both gone, stems too. Verdict: clear win. Day 3, outer again, different head. After: veins eaten, green parts left like lace. Verdict: eats the plumbing, skips the leaf, noted exactly like that in my sheet. Day 4, hearts. Gone in 50 minutes, fastest lettuce so far. Day 5, mix test, one outer one heart side by side. Heart gone, outer half left. Verdict: the head-to-head photo settled it in one frame. Day 6, outer, room temp 30 min longer. Slightly better, still half left. Verdict: temperature helped a little, not enough. Day 7, hearts. Gone. Day 8, outer, hand-offered first. Took two bites from hand, then ignored on saucer. Verdict: presentation can’t fix preference.

day 5 head-to-head outer versus heart leaves
Day 5 head-to-head, heart gone, outer half left.

My log shows outer leaves are left more often than hearts, 5 of 5 outer days with leftovers against 0 of 3 heart days clean-plated. I note that and adjust next time by offering less: outer days now get one leaf instead of three, hearts stay at two. Waste dropped from a handful to a pinch per lettuce day. Water stays fresh alongside, I top the bowl at serve time because lettuce days in my notes pair with longer drinking (three of eight days the bowl line dropped visibly further, all heart days). I do not explain why, I only put the two observations side by side: hearts eaten fast, water down more. I do not mix many greens in one day so my notes stay clear. One green per day, two photos, one line. After a month you will know your rabbit pattern without guessing, mine is hearts over outers, 8 days, no exceptions yet. Before-and-after plate photos taken by me at 18:00 and 20:00 sharp. Not vet advice.

Day 9, hearts, blind check. Served without looking which bag part, guessed heart from texture, confirmed gone. Verdict: guessable by touch now. Day 10, outer, one leaf only. New reduced portion. After: fully eaten, first clean outer day. Verdict: portion size was half the problem. Day 11, outer, one leaf, warm room 26 degrees. Wilted by 19:00, half left. Verdict: heat beats portion, wilt is refusal. Day 12, hearts, warm room same 26. Eaten before wilting, gone in 35 minutes. Verdict: speed beats heat; hearts are eaten too fast to wilt. Twelve days closed the question from every angle I could stage at home.

Waste ledger and water pairing. Outer three-leaf days wasted a handful each; outer one-leaf days waste a pinch or nothing; heart days waste nothing ever. Monthly waste from lettuce at my rate (twice weekly): under a handful, down from a bagful in February when I served blind. Water table from the same dates: heart days bowl visibly lower 3 of 5, outer days 1 of 7. I serve water refreshed at 18:00 on lettuce days regardless, and on heart days I now add a second check at 20:00 with the after photo, twice the bowl needed topping. Small numbers, same notebook, one line each: lettuce type, leftover, water line. That triple line is the entire method, and day 5’s head-to-head photo remains the single best frame, heart gone, outer laced, same light, no argument needed.

Serving rules taped in my cupboard, earned not assumed: hearts two leaves, outers one leaf, room temp 20 minutes off the rinse in winter, shade serve above 25 degrees or skip to hearts-only, one green per day always, wilted equals refused so serve smaller when warm. February me served three big cold outers and composted half; March me serves little and composts almost nothing. The before-and-after photos proved portions lie and leftovers tell the truth, outer lace patterns, heart clean plates, water lines down on fast days. Twelve days, one head-to-head frame, waste ledger near zero. That is lettuce at my house, logged not prescribed.

Pairing note for the full-day picture: lettuce-heart evenings precede zoomies in 4 of 5 cases in my movement diary, outer-leaf evenings precede quiet flops. I write the order down and claim nothing about cause, play then flop, flop then play, the diary holds both. If greens sit untouched for a full day plus droppings change, logging stops and the vet gets the call; the scorecards wait.

Sheet, photos, and pinch bowl agree: little and fresh wins.

Logged daily, trusted monthly.
