Best Moments Album: Baby Photos And Now
same angle, same light my log photo
Azmi's note My personal log from Meknes, not vet advice. Just what I did and saw tonight.

Someone asked for baby pictures, so tonight I made a best-moments album: tiny baby loaf next to today’s big sploot. Same bunny, same eyes, triple the size. This post is the curator’s retrospective: five eras, the album habit that built it, and one serious safety note. Personal photo project, not care advice. Albums turn daily crumbs into a story. Flip back yearly, it never gets old.

Era 1, Baby Koda days

Tiny loaf, enormous ears, asleep 20 hours daily. Photos: weekly, same blanket, a coin for scale in the early ones (retired once the ears outgrew the joke). Notes beside each: weight climbing, naps legendary, curiosity budding. Baby Koda days lasted about ten weeks and produced the album’s most-viewed frame: asleep inside a teacup (supervised, seconds, legendary). Era 2, chocolate floof grows: the awkward long-legged months, ears finally proportional, first binky captured blurred. Era 3, snow inspector era: first winter, closed-pen snow sessions with me sitting inside it, white nose in white world, paw prints catalogued like evidence.

Era 4-5, sploot era and now

Era 4: the sploot perfected, full-length tile sprawls, triple the baby size, same eyes exactly. Era 5 (now): distinguished loaf, silver muzzle hairs counted (seven), naps professional-grade. Best moments, latest: this week’s doorway flop in evening light, printed already. My album habit, for copiers: save one photo per month into the same folder (the monthly best, chosen Sunday); note weight next to milestone photos; winter coat vs summer coat comparison yearly (same pose, same chair, the coat diptych). Five years of months: 60 bests, 5 coat pairs, one story. The folder is the diary’s greatest hit and its backup memory.

For care, housing, or handling questions I ask my vet, the album holds memories, professionals hold answers.

Best moments, latest.

One serious note: the leash question

Someone asked about the leash in the snow photo: fair question, straight answer. Leashes can hurt rabbit backs badly, so mine never wears one, no harness photos exist in this album and none will. Snow photos happen in a closed pen with me sitting inside it: pen walls 90 cm, me as furniture, bunny free, camera ready. Cute never beats safe in this diary, the rule that governs crowns, rolls, and snow alike. Every era above was staged with the same hierarchy: safety first, photo second, outtake deleted. The album’s finest quality isn’t the floof (considerable) but the fact that every frame was taken without asking anything of its star. Same bunny, same eyes, triple the size, zero compromises.

Album mechanics: folders, names, backups

Folder tree: album/year/month, bests starred, coat pairs in a subfolder named moults. File names: date plus two-word caption (04-11-tile-flop), sortable, searchable, future-proof. Backups: phone copy plus printed annual best (12 prints, cheap frame, hallway gallery). The hallway gallery runs five eras deep now and visitors walk it like a museum: baby gasps at era 1, laughter at the snow inspector, silence at the sploot (scale commands respect). Monthly selection ritual: last Sunday, tea, 30 candidates, one winner, the choosing is the pleasure, the folder the prize. Sixty bests and counting; the story writes itself one Sunday at a time. Flip back yearly, it never gets old, verified five times and counting.

Tonight’s album task: May’s best, three candidates (doorway flop in evening light, sploot mid-stretch, nose at camera), winner pending Sunday tea. The coat pair for this year already shot: winter shag versus spring sleek, same chair, undeniable. Era 6 loading: silver-muzzle distinguished era, currently filming. The album never closes; it just adds months. Sixty bests today, seventy by autumn, story ongoing. Same bunny, same eyes, growing archive.

Outtakes folder, for honesty: 200 blurred frames kept (motion, low light, nose-too-close), the worst filed as comedy, ear only, tail only, empty blanket where bunny was (fastest exit on record). The outtakes outnumber keepers ten to one and the ratio is the real habit: shoot plenty, keep one, laugh at the rest. Printing economics: annual twelve for the hallway, monthly bests stay digital, ink reserved for diptychs. Total album spend yearly: one cheap frame plus printing, the cheapest museum in town. Visitors’ favorite era poll: snow inspector leads, baby Koda second, sploot third. My favorite changes monthly; this month: latest. Always latest, the story’s best frame is the one still drying.

Hallway gallery tour, self-guided: start at baby Koda (gasp), walk through floof and snow (laugh), rest at the sploot (respect), end at latest (smile). Sixty frames, five eras, one bunny. Admission: free, always. The museum never closes; it just adds Sundays. Same eyes, every wall.

Era indexes, complete: baby ten weeks, floof six months, snow first winter, sploot year two, distinguished now. Each era one print minimum, each print dated, each date a doorway. The retrospective never concludes, it intermissions between Sundays. Next sitting: Sunday tea, thirty candidates, one winner. The eyes watch from every wall, triple the baby size, same soul, plainly). Album complete to date; to be continued forever.
