Carrot Twerk: The Twitch Of Joy
same angle, same light my log photo
Azmi's note My personal log from Meknes, not vet advice. Just what I did and saw tonight.

Court is now in session in the living room of Meknes. Presiding: Azmi, part-time human, full-time witness. Before the court: one piece of carrot, orange and suspiciously delicious, accused of causing a full twerk. Defendant: Duvan, small, fluffy, ears everywhere, pleading extremely guilty with his whole body. The charge reads as follows: that on this evening, upon receiving said carrot, the defendant twitched with enjoyment in a manner described by witnesses as a full twerk. How does the defendant plead. The defendant wiggles his nose and says nothing, which the court accepts as a yes.

Opening statement by the human

Members of the rug, I will be brief. Duvan got a piece of carrot tonight and twitched with enjoyment: full twerk, ears everywhere. I have seen ear wiggles before. I have seen happy hops. I have never seen a rabbit vibrate with joy while holding totally still in the middle, like a tiny engine running on orange gold. The carrot in question must have been a very good piece of carrot. The court will hear testimony, review the joy-twitch scale, and determine whether this was a good carrot, a great carrot, or a legendary carrot requiring formal logging. I keep treats tiny and rare in our house, and I check with my vet about food questions rather than deciding anything on my own.

Exhibit A: the joy-twitch scale

ExhibitDescriptionMeaning
Ear wiggleEars shake lightly, nose keeps workingA good piece, case nearly dismissed
Full twerkRear end shivers, ears bounce, eyes half closeA great piece, tonight’s charge
Full spinRabbit turns in place while chewingA legendary piece, log it in the diary

Testimony of the ears, called to the stand

The ears take the stand together, as always. Left ear states that the crunch sounded louder than usual. Right ear confirms and adds that it flopped backward from sheer happiness. Under cross-examination both ears admit they are dramatic and fall over during ordinary hay meals too, but they insist tonight was different. Tonight they went everywhere at once. The court notes that the ears have no credibility and total charm, and accepts their testimony in full. I watched from the couch with my tea going cold, obsessed with those ears the way only a rabbit human can be. Baby twerks for orange gold, and I document every one like a clerk who loves his job.

Testimony of the nose and the feet

The nose testifies next, twitching at high speed throughout. It states that the smell arrived first, sweet and earthy, and that chewing began before permission was granted. The front paws confirm they held the piece down with professional grip. The back feet report a tingling sensation consistent with the full twerk described in the charge. The tail, called as a surprise witness, says nothing and trembles slightly, which brings the courtroom to laughter. For a second I thought he was the carrot himself, orange and round and shaking with pride. Honestly, same energy. The court takes a short recess while the defendant demands a second hearing, by which I mean he stares at my hand until I show it is empty.

Testimony of the blanket and the other rabbits

The blanket testifies that it shook for a full two seconds and has never been so proud. Laid flat on the couch in Meknes, it states, it felt the vibration travel from one corner to the other like a small happy earthquake. The other rabbits, called as character witnesses, confirm that Duvan is normally polite and shares the hay pile without complaint. They add that tonight he finished first, sat taller than usual, and looked around the room as if expecting applause. One of them sniffed the empty spot where the carrot had been and sneezed, which the court records as envy. I confirm from the couch that the whole scene lasted under a minute but filled the evening completely, the way only small joys can.

Sentencing notes: what happens after a great carrot

After a verdict of this kind the court orders no extra treats, only the usual calm evening. Duvan returns to the hay pile, washes his face with both paws, and flops against the cushion like a judge removing a heavy robe. I stay on the couch a while longer, writing down the time, the size of the piece, and the exact shape of the twerk, because legendary status next time will depend on honest records. These small logs matter to me more than any feast. A tiny piece of carrot, a full-body answer, ears everywhere, and one human laughing quietly so the moment lasts. Some nights the house feels enormous and I feel small inside it. Tonight it felt exactly rabbit-sized, and I fit perfectly.

Closing arguments and verdict

The defense argues that joy cannot be regulated and that twerking is free expression. The prosecution argues that the twerk was so strong it shook the blanket and startled the other rabbits, and that such power must be logged. Both sides rest. This court finds the carrot to be a great carrot, one step below legendary only because no spin occurred. Duvan is sentenced to a lifetime of being watched fondly while he eats, which he was already serving. I enter the verdict into my diary beside older food memories, including those evenings of munching in stereo when two jaws crunch in rhythm, and my notes on low-sugar treats with willow and hibiscus, which taught me to keep sweet things small and thoughtful. Court is adjourned. The defendant flops sideways in triumph, ears everywhere, and the whole courtroom of one human applauds.
