My Litter Corner Setup and Cleaning Log

Hi from Meknes! This is my litter corner setup and how I keep it tidy. I show my layout, my cleaning order, and my weekly log. Just my routine, no product push. This is not cleaning advice for others, only what I do in my room, with my tray and my photos. For disinfectants or health issues I ask a vet. Here I use only water and a little white vinegar with full rinse.
My corner layout and why this corner
I use one corner: a low tray, a hay rack above one side, and a washable mat in front. Cords are covered and the wall behind has a wipeable panel. I chose this corner because it gets morning light but stays cool at noon. The room is about 3 by 4 meters. The corner itself is 90 cm wide: 60 cm tray plus 30 cm mat overlap. The hay rack hangs 15 cm above the tray on the left side only. After week one I moved the hay rack 10 cm left because hay fell outside the tray. Small move, much less sweeping. That 10 cm is marked with pencil on the wall so I can reset after Sunday wash.
The tray is low-entry on the mat side, higher on the wall side to protect the panel. Under the tray I have a thin washable pad in case of splash. The mat in front is 60 by 90 cm, machine washable, dark color so hay shows for sweeping. Behind the tray, a 60 cm high wipeable panel protects the paint. To the right of the tray, nothing, empty landing space so my rabbit can hop out cleanly without jumping over hay. To the left, the hay rack only. No toys in the corner, toys live in the play zone two meters away. That separation keeps the toilet corner calm and the play corner messy, not mixed.

My cleaning order timed
Morning is 3 minutes: remove soiled hay by hand with a small paper bag, shake the mat at the balcony door, check the tray edge. Evening is 4 minutes: wipe steel tray edge with a cloth dampened with water only, straighten mat, one photo on Sundays only. Weekly on Sundays is 20 minutes: full tray empty, mat wash, sun-dry, vinegar wipe then clean-water rinse then dry, rack dusting. I keep morning water-only and weekly vinegar-only so daily notes stay comparable. The vinegar step is one cap in a small bowl of water, wipe, wait two minutes, wipe again with clean water, then dry completely before refilling. I do it with windows open and rabbit in the play area, never inside the tray.
| When | What I do | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | Remove soiled hay, shake mat | 3 min |
| Evening | Wipe steel tray with damp cloth, vinegar wipe weekly | 4 min |
| Weekly Sun | Wash mat, sun-dry, full tray refresh | 20 min |
My 4-week cleaning log
I note smell 0 to 2 and time each day. Smell 0 means nothing at door, 1 means noticeable at corner, 2 means I missed a step. Here are four Sundays typed from paper.
Week 1: daily 3 to 5 min, smell mostly 0, Sunday 22 min, learned rack 10 cm shift. Photo shows hay spill before shift. Week 2: daily 3 to 4 min, smell 0 all week, Sunday 18 min, mat sun-dried 2 hours, fully dry, no damp note. Week 3: two evenings skipped wipe due to guests, smell 1 on Thu and Fri, daily average 3 min but Sunday took 26 min to catch up. Lesson: skipping evening wipe costs more Sunday time than it saves. Week 4: back to daily wipes, smell 0, Sunday 19 min. Total daily time month: about 2 hours, Sunday total: about 85 minutes. Small daily beats big weekly, my sheet proves it in minutes, not opinions.
What works for me in Meknes
I wipe the steel parts with a cloth dampened with water and a little white vinegar on Sundays only, then wipe again with clean water and dry. I learned this tidy order from trying different ways and noting smell and time in my sheet. Daily small cleans beat one big clean. I take a photo every Sunday from the same angle to see wear, door frame feet mark, same height. The Sunday photo shows mat edge curl, tray scratch, wall panel splash. After four photos I could see the mat curl growing on the right side, so I rotate the mat 180 degrees each Sunday now. That one rotation doubled the flat period.
Meknes dust matters. In spring the balcony dust lands on the mat by noon. I shake at 7:40 and again lightly at 19:00, second shake is 30 seconds only. In winter the mat stays damp longer after wash, so I wash at 10:00 to catch midday sun, not in the evening. I keep two mats to swap: one in use, one dry spare. No scented sprays, no candles, no perfumed liners in my corner, I noticed avoidance once after a scented cloth, so I removed all scents and the corner use went back to normal the same day. I only note what I saw, I claim nothing general.
Mistakes and small fixes
Three fixes worth sharing with photos. Fix one: rack 10 cm left, spill pile shrank from a handful to a pinch daily. Fix two: mat rotation, curl flattened, tray entry easier. Fix three: empty landing to the right, before, a toy box blocked exit and hay got dragged two meters; after moving toys to play zone, drag zone shrank to half a meter. Each fix has a before and after Sunday photo from the same angle. I keep the failed layouts too, they remind me why the current layout won.
I take a photo every Sunday from the same angle to see wear. My rabbit uses the corner right after cleaning, so I clean when he is in the play area. Friends ask about liners and covers, I just show my photos and my time log. Keep your setup simple, washable, and consistent. That is my whole secret. Next note will be my couch-time rules and how I protect the blankets. If litter habits change suddenly or urine looks unusual for more than a day, I pause the tidy experiment and contact a vet, logs never replace care.
Corner photos taken by me every Sunday from the taped floor mark. All wipes shown are water or diluted vinegar with rinse, no strong chemicals in my routine.
