How I Decorated Tunnel Toy
same angle, same light my log photo
Azmi's note My personal log from Meknes, not vet advice. Just what I did and saw tonight.

Hi, I’m Azmi from Meknes! I decorated our play tunnel with fabric scraps and a name tag. This is my personal toy log, not product advice. I share what I tied, where, and what my sheet caught. Safety first in my house: nothing inside the tunnel that can be swallowed, daily checks, remove at first loose thread.

What I added: three strips outside only

I tied three soft strips outside, never inside where they could chew loose threads, and I check them daily. Strips are 15 by 3 cm cotton jersey, no buttons, no glue, single knot outside the tunnel seam. Left blue, middle mustard, right rust. Name tag is a 5 cm cardboard card tied with short string outside the entrance, replaced when edges soften. Before photos show a plain tunnel, after photos show the same tunnel with colors. I keep the tunnel in the same place so the comparison is fair, 2 meters from the corner base, entrance facing the room, exit toward the rug. Moving it even 50 cm changed use in my test week, so position stays fixed during logging.

How I log it

Play logging holds at 17:30 sharp: strip touched first, minutes inside, one line. Hour is 17:30 play start. Line is first-touch strip plus minutes inside: example mid-6 min. I note time, place, and what I saw. I logged which strip he touches first: the middle one, every time. Nine of twelve days middle first in two weeks. Left touched twice, right once. I do not claim color preference, middle is also the highest drape that moves in breeze, so movement may explain it. Borrow the shape, not the substance, rabbits vary; my table and week photos are below.

What my weeks showed: play shifted earlier

Play time moved from evening to late afternoon after the makeover, which my sheet caught. Before deco, median start was 19:10. After deco, median 17:35 for two weeks. Duration grew from 4 to 7 minutes average. I did not change feeding or light, only strips plus fixed position. I still do not claim decoration caused it, I only show the order: deco Sun, earlier play Mon onward. Wash check: strips hand-washed weekly with water only, air-dried. I tug each knot daily, 5-second pull. Any slip means strip removed that day. In three weeks I removed and re-tied the right strip twice. That daily check is my toy rule.

Seven play days drew the pattern. Under ten minutes once the tunnel stayed put. Washable strips, photo before tidy, fair comparisons. Simple, washable, checked daily. That is my toy rule. Logging tunnel play? Date, first-touch strip, minutes. A month of tunnel photos: entries doubled, spending zero. Boring to us, interesting to them, the toy log’s whole thesis. Tunnel minutes will join my zoomies diary next, play then rest as one evening line. For swallowed fabric, loose strings, or appetite change, I stop toy tests and contact a vet.

Tunnel photos mine, same spot and hour so days compare fairly. Not vet advice. Toy notes only, inspect daily and remove damaged parts.

Knot checks, wash days and position test

Position test proved itself in week one: I shifted the tunnel 50 cm toward the window for two days and entries dropped from 7 to 2 minutes with zero middle-strip touches. Back to the marked tape position, numbers recovered the next day. That is why tape marks on the floor now outline both tunnel feet, any shift is visible in the photo. Wash rhythm: strips hand-washed Sundays with water only, air-dried flat, re-tied with the same single knot. Tag replaced every two weeks or when corners curl. Spare set lives in the toy box so a wash day never means a bare tunnel. Evening pairing: tunnel 17:30 play predicts tile flop 19:20 same evening in 9 of 14 days. Noisy-street days break the chain, brief 3-minute tunnel plus rug-edge sit instead of tile flop. That broken-chain mark tells me tomorrow will be a catch-up play day.

Final note: keep toys boring to us and interesting to them. Same tunnel, same place, same three strips, daily knot pull. My month proves tiny consistency beats new toys: entries doubled with zero spending. Next I will link tunnel minutes with my zoomies diary to show play then rest as one evening line.

Strip colors rotated once as a test (blue-middle-mustard order swapped): first-touch stayed middle-position, confirming place over color in my notes. Order restored, finding filed. Position beats pigment, the tunnel’s second lesson after fixed placement.

Knot check daily; position fixed permanently. Same tunnel, same tape marks, same middle-first results.

Middle strip leads; breeze decides the rest. Entries logged; spending zero.

Tunnel steady.
