Baby Learned To Jump On The Bed (Help)
same angle, same light my log photo
Azmi's note My personal log from Meknes, not vet advice. Just what I did and saw tonight.

Twelve weeks old and he just learned to jump on the bed. And on top of the indoor hutch. It is high, he is small, and I am nervous. No climb path I can find, he just launches. This post is the baby-proofing work order: the launch discovery, landing-zone engineering, and the day/night protocol now in force. Personal household log, not safety advice, for fall or injury worries I call a vet immediately; what follows is padding and supervision. I live with bunny now, bunny does not live with me. The bed is shared territory and the rug is his runway.

Discovery: the launch (Tuesday, 17:20)

Heard a thump, turned around: baby on the bed, sitting tall, extremely pleased. Height: 55 cm from rug to mattress (measured). Approach: no climb path I can find, rug to air to bed in one arc, witnessed three times since (takeoff always from the rug’s edge, never the tile, the rug is his runway, confirmed). Second discovery same week: atop the indoor hutch (90 cm!) via the chair seat as staging. I live with bunny now, the furniture belongs to whoever can reach it, and reach keeps growing. Reaction protocol established: delight first (binky-worthy achievement), padding second (nervous human engineering).

Baby-proofing plan: the work order

  • Plush rug on landing side, jump from rug only, thick rug repositioned to cover both launch and landing zones; tile approaches blocked with the tunnel (rerouted, not removed)
  • Stopping him makes it unsafer, so I pad instead, one blocked jump produced a tile-side attempt (worse); open safe routes beat forbidden ones, filed as principle
  • Supervised bed time only until bigger, bed access granted when I’m present; solo room time means floor level only (hutch door closed, chair pushed in)

Asleep-human plus bed-bunny equals squish risk, so nights are hutch nights for the baby. Days are for supervised launches, the day/night split posted on the fridge. Related air-traffic precedents: the bed-takeover afternoons (adult edition, pillow rights) and the room-corner map (launch-pad coordinates updated). Week-one flight log: 9 bed landings (all rug-side, all stuck), 3 hutch summits (supervised), 0 tile attempts (rerouting works). The runway stays clear; the launches stay supervised; the baby stays airborne on schedule.

Flight school: weeks 12-16

Week 12: bed discovered, 9 landings logged. Week 13: hutch summit via chair (staging approved, chair now permanent stairs with towel grip). Week 14: first double, bed to hutch top in one session (ambition noted, supervised closely). Week 15: technique refined, crouch, wiggle, launch, stick (stuck landings 8 of 10). Week 16: graduate flights, zero tile attempts all month. Flight instructor notes (me): praise landings, pad everything, never punish altitude. Night rule holding: hutch nights till bigger, size threshold set at double current weight per vet’s growth chat (their guidance, my threshold). Daytimes: supervised launches unlimited (joy unlimited). The runway extends as he grows; the protocol grows with him. Twelve weeks old going on pilot; the bed remains shared territory by air and by rug.

Landing-zone engineering, detailed

Rug specification: thick pile, 2 by 3 meters, covering launch plus landing plus one bunny-length margin (measured with bunny, cooperative). Tile exclusion: tunnel reroute holds, zero tile launches in 30 days (verified by rug-dust patterns, detective methods). Hutch-top protocol: towel grip on the edge, supervised summits only, dismount assisted via chair (reverse stairs, same towel). Midnight audit: no solo ascents detected (camera checked weekly, the night shift reports zero flights). Baby-proofing is never finished, only updated: each new skill gets padding within 24 hours (house SLA). Launches logged, landings stuck, baby intact. Aeronautics with whiskers.

Flight log monthly summary: 40+ landings, 12 summits, 0 tile attempts, 0 incidents. Runway record perfect; instructor proud; passenger (stuffed toy placed as ballast once, fell off mid-flight, retired from aviation). Growth check: weight doubling since arrival (vet pleased), jump height steady (technique over power). Night rule review: hutch nights continue till the weight threshold (approaching, graduation flight ceremony planned). Days remain supervised-launch territory; the bed remains shared by air. Twelve weeks to pilot in sixteen; the sky (55 cm up) belongs to the brave.

Graduation preview: weight threshold approaching, solo-room trials pending, runway privileges expanding. The baby who launched blind now sticks landings; the nervous human now applauds instead of gasping (mostly). Baby-proofing never ends, it graduates: padding stays, supervision relaxes by degrees, trust grows both directions. Shared territory by air, rug, and heart. Fly safe, little pilot.

Runway report filed: rug clear, tile blocked, launches logged. Twelve weeks brave; sixteen weeks masterful. Bed shared, hutch summited, baby intact. Aeronautics honors probable.

Flight school motto: pad everything, praise landings, log it all. Baby flies; human pads; diary soars. Runway forever clear.

Launches logged daily; landings stuck mostly. Baby pilot, cleared for bed.

Fly safe, little pilot.

Bed shared.

Airborne.

I added extra padding along the bed edge tonight and cleared the runway rug of every stray slipper. The little pilot inspected my work, launched once for quality control, and landed squarely on the softest spot available.
